Obituary of Katharine Betzig

Katharine Bohmert Betzig, of Mamaroneck, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Nov. 9, 2016. Born October 19, 1930 to Charles E. and Frances A. O'Callaghan Bohmert. Katharine attended St. Gabriels HS and College of New Rochelle, class of 1952. She taught first grade at Chatsworth Avenue School in Larchmont. On April 24, 1954 she married Jack Betzig, the love of her life at Most Holy Trinity Church in Mamaroneck, NY. She is survived by five children, Kate Spader (David), Betty Scanlon (Eddie), Karen Marache (Herb), Madelyn Jolliffe (Bruce), and John A. Betzig Jr. (Vicky), her brother Charlie Bohmert and sisters Betty Kelly and Mary Alice McHugh, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jack, infant son Jackie, son Michael and granddaughter Maggie. Katharine was named Miss Westchester in 1948. She was a member of the Soundettes of Westchester for 17 years, a lifelong member of Orienta Beach Club where she chaired the ladies Advisory Committee and was a member of Sts. John and Paul Parish since 1957. Katharine and Jack loved spending time on Long Island Sound with their family and friends. Katharine enjoyed weekly bridge games with her girlfriends. Visiting on Sunday, Novemeber 13 from 4-7pm at Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am, Monday November 14 at Sts. John and Paul RC Church, Larchmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the name of Captain Jack's Crew, Swim Across America, PO Box 217, Larchmont, NY 10538.
