Obituary of Michael G. Marks
Michael G. Marks, a longtime Larchmont resident, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born in 1931 in Davenport, Iowa to George and Kleo Marks, who had immigrated from Crete. He attended St. Ambrose University and the University of Iowa School of Law. Prior to law school, he spent 39 months as an officer in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. In 1959, Michael joined the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher until his retirement as a partner in 2000. He is survived by Cynthia, his wife of 54 years, whom he met while studying at the University of Iowa and later married in New York City. He is also survived by his son, Chris (Po), and daughter, Katherine Caneer (Philip), four grandchildren, Michael and Giana Marks, and Philippa and Greyson Caneer, and his dog, Becca. He was an avid sailor and a longtime member of the Larchmont Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Race Committee. As a parishioner of the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour, he served on the parish council for many years. He loved listening to classical music and attending concerts, watching football and baseball, and taking walks in the woods with his golden retrievers. Visiting hours are Monday, October 10th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. The funeral will be held at 10AM Tuesday at Church of Our Saviour, Rye, NY and interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY.
