Obituary of Kathleen Crimmins Cawley
Kathleen (Kathy) Crimmins Cawley passed away on August 18, 2016. She is survived by Tom Cawley, her husband of almost 52 years, three sons TJ, Bill and Chris, three daughters-in-law Kathy, Mary Liz and Sonia, nine grandchildren, and her sisters Jan Meagher and Denise Clayton. Her sister Meredith predeceased her.
Kathy was a graduate of Greenwich Academy and Northwestern University, where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. She was a 3rd grade teacher at Columbia Grammar School in New York City and the Osborne School in Rye, NY. Kathy was a very active member of the communities where she lived, both in Larchmont, NY and Key West, FL, where she had many dear friends and pursued numerous volunteer endeavors. She was a devout Catholic, and attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in Key West, and Sts. John and Paul Church in Larchmont. Kathy was a a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her nine grandchildren - Katie, Shannon, Ryan, Liza Jane, Lincoln Jix, Mary Kate, Hugh Douglas, Lang and Magnus - who all adored her. Kathy was an avid tennis player and conversationalist. She was the original 'Chatty Kathy' who never met a stranger, and went out of her way to help others. She was a co-founder of the Larchmont Youth Soccer League, volunteered at the Larchmont Junior League Golden Shoestring, supported her husband's career for many years traveling the country for business conventions with Philip Morris, Inc. Most recently, Kathy was a member of the Cancer Support Group in Greenwich. Whenever she learned of someone undergoing chemotherapy, Kathy delivered "Red Hots" candies to help curb the detrimental effects of their treatment. Kathy also volunteered at the Key West Hospital and supported all local theater and cultural events. Kathy and her husband Tom lived at 'Key West By the Sea' 8 months of the year, and served on the Enhancement Committee. They spent the summer months living Greenwich, CT, enjoying the Larchmont Yacht Club and seeing scores of friends and family as much as possible.
Kathy will be dearly missed and long remembered. She was a petite yet mighty presence, and a bright light in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
