Obituary of Donald Thomas O'Connor

Donald Thomas "DOC" O'Connor, a longtime resident of Larchmont, New York, sadly passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born in Rockaway Beach, New York on August 31, 1932 to Joseph O'Connor and Mildred (Stothard) O'Connor. He was the second of five children. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and spent his childhood summers in Rockaway Beach. He graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel grammar school, Xavier High School in Manhattan and Fordham University. He then earned his Doctor of Law degree from Fordham Law School in 1961. He served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Inchon, Korea from 1954-1956. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Mary J. Bunyan and together they raised four loving daughters. He was a well-respected Corporate Attorney who worked for Mobil Oil Corporation in Mid-town Manhattan for over thirty years. Upon his retirement from Mobil Oil, he continued working as a self-employed real estate attorney. He was known for his strong work ethic and devotion to all of his clients. During his industrious career, he traveled throughout the United States and formed numerous lifetime friendships. Donald was an avid sports fan. He loved watching football, baseball, hockey and college basketball. He especially enjoyed the former New York Giants baseball team, New York Yankees and Notre Dame and New York Giants football. Donald loved being with his family and friends and entertaining everyone with his unforgettable, incredibly funny stories. He was a member of The Larchmont Shore Club for over forty years where he formed lasting and enduring friendships. Donald had a huge, completely selfless heart and always put others first. He will always be remembered for his kindness, extremely outgoing personality, wonderful sense of humor and wit. He was extremely bright and articulate and truly had been blessed with the Irish gift of "gab" and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He was always the consummate "gentleman" whose love and devotion to his family and friends will forever be in our hearts. He was a beloved husband, extremely devoted father, cherished grandfather and a great friend to all those who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary (Bunyan), devoted daughters, Noreen, Patricia, Mary (Dennis Di Buono) and Ann (Christopher Cornell), his adoring grandson Timothy Donald Cole , his dear sisters Barbara (John Hofmann) and Joanne (James McCue) dear brother Francis (Annette) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph, son in law David Cole and his long time canine companion Dillon. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7, and Friday, April 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at John J. Fox funeral home in Larchmont, New York. As a devout Roman Catholic, a Mass of the Christian Burial and celebration of his life, legacy, love, humor and strength will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont, New York.
