Obituary of Elena G. Hanway

Elena Garcia Hanway, a 51 year resident of Larchmont died peacefully in her sleep on September 4, 2015. She was married to John Hanway II, formerly of Pelham Manor, for 65 years. They were married in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico in May 1950 and again in Pelham, NY in July 1950. She was predeceased by her son David. She is survived by her children and their spouses, John III (Janet), Robert (Lolly), Linda (Robert), and Thomas (Denise). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Carolyn (Dan), Tim (Jenny), Westleigh (Saieh), Alexander, Douglas, Jessica and Ajed. Elena was also predeceased by her sister Esther. Elena was born in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Laredo, Texas. After attending Texas A & I University, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle. She received her Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling from Iona College. Elena was fiercely dedicated to her family and faith. She wore a velvet glove which covered her steely resolve to love and protect her family. She lives in our hearts because of those qualities and she will remain with us always. Funeral services are private.
