Obituary of Vera Werner
Vera Stein Werner a resident of Larchmont/Mamaroneck for 60 years passed away at her home on Friday July 24, 2015. She had just celebrated her 92 birthday surrounded by family
She leaves behind her children and their partners Ken Werner and Noreen Bagley, Karen Werner and Ken Botnick , Andrea Werner and Brad Lindley and their children
Mrs. Werner was born July 1,1923 in Czechoslovakia. After the invasion by the Nazis, Vera and her family were deported to the Lodz Ghetto. At the end of the war, she was liberated from Bergen-Belsen and was reunited with her brother who survived Dachau. She returned to Czechoslovakia for a brief period before the Russians invaded in 1948 and made her way to the U.S. via London, England. Shortly thereafter, while working as a bookkeeper in Forest Hills, she met her future husband Jack C. Werner.
Vera was an avid gardener and tennis player. She was also a sculptor active in the local arts community and most recently was fond of participating in programs hosted by Home on the Sound. She was known for the remarkable Viennese-style desserts she created and for her prowess at Scrabble and crossword puzzles. Her courage, intelligence and indomitable spirit will always be an inspiration for her family and friends. . Funeral services at Larchmont Temple, 75 Larchmont Temple, Larchmont, NY, Thursday, July 30th, 11 AM. Family and friends invited to gather at the family home.
