Obituary of Samuel H. Meisler

Samuel H. Meisler, longtime resident of White Plains, passed away at his home on October 9, 2014 at the age of 102 years. Sam was born on September 18th, 1912, in Jersey City, New Jersey and spent most of his younger life growing up and working in the New Jersey/New York area before settling down in White Plains with his family in 1970.Sam was a graduate of Rutgers University with a Master of Science in Biological Research and Agriculture. After working for a few years at Nopco Chemical Company in Harrison, NJ, Sam decided to start his own business as a chicken farmer, opening "Singing Hen Farms and Hatchery" in Lakewood, NJ, in 1945. In 1960, Sam began to share his knowledge of science and agriculture with others, becoming a Science teacher for various schools in the New Jersey and New York areas. Sam's later years were spent enjoying classical music, going to Bally's Gym (right up until he was 101), painting, being a member of "The Old Guard of White Plains", and spending time with his dear friend, Vera Green. Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edith, his daughter Suzanne, and his son Donald. He is survived by his grandson David Levy of Allenhurst, grandson Michael Levy and his wife Lisa of Ocean, NJ, and their son Jacob. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
