NEW ROCHELLE, (NY) - The Former Director of Salesian Missions New Rochelle, New York, Fr. Edward Cappelletti, S.D.B., passed to the Lord, 12th December morning at about 10:00.
Fr. Cappelletti, affectionately called by staff and confreres "Fr Ed," was accompanied by his Director, Fr. Steve Dumais, Fr. Ken Shaw, and Mr. Jaime Correa, a colleague from the Salesian Mission Office.
"Fr. Edward returned to the Lord, his heavenly Mother Mary (on the feast of Our Lady of the Americas - the Lady of Guadalupe), and his eternal reward after 93 years of Christian life, 73 years of profession as a Salesian of Don Bosco, and 63 years of Salesian life as a priest," says New Rochelle Provincial Fr Thomas A. Dunne in his letter to confreres of the province.
He further adds, "The St. Philip Province offers its condolences to the Cappelletti family for the loss of their loved one. We join in prayer with the members of the Provincial House community with whom Fr. Edward shared life over these past years. We pray along with the Salesian Missions community who worked with Fr. Edward for so many years in animating the missionary nature of the Church and supporting Don Bosco's missionary endeavors throughout the world."
The Mission Office was founded in 1947 by Fr. James O'Loughlen who directed it for five years. In 1959, the responsibility was passed to Fr. Edward Cappelletti who remained Director for the next 37 years until 1996, giving it development, importance and dynamism.
Today, Fr. Mark Hyde, as Director, continues the legacy.
