Obituary of Donald J. Manion
Donald J. Manion of Larchmont, NY, died on October 8, 2013, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., on November 27, 1933, the son of Joseph Manion and Jeannette MacPherson Manion, he was raised in Waltham, Mass., graduating from St. Mary's High School before serving as an M.P. in the Army for two years.
In September, 1958, Don married the girl across the street, Nancy Martin Manion, in St. Augustine's Church in Larchmont, NY.
Within one week in June, 1959, he graduated from Fordham University, welcomed his first child, and reported for his new job with Merrill Lynch in Brooklyn. He continued to work in finance until his retirement.
A resident of Larchmont for more than 50 years, and a longtime member of the Larchmont Yacht Club, he delighted in rebuilding his schooner, Volante, with the help of his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their 10 children: Jenny Manion Fox, Don Jr., Chuck (Liliana), Molly Moran (Paul), Kate, Patrick (Jane), Peter (Danielle), Paul (Deena), Mac, and Maggie Wakefield (Eric), as well as 20 grandchildren: Irene and Ford Fox; Reno and Nina Manion; Charlie, Hunter, Spencer, Jack, Quincy and Bridie Moran; Lily Osgan; Angus, Harry and Lulu; Megan and Molly Manion; Van, Keely and Gavin; and M.J. Wakefield. .
Visiting will be Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc., in Larchmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye will follow.
