Obituary of Virginia B. Schlotman

Virginia B. Schlotman, longtime resident of Larchmont passed away on September 4, 2013 at the age of 94. Mrs. Schlotman, the daughter of Roy E. and Mary Theresa (Malloy) Blewitt was born on August 11, 1919. Her husband, William J. Schlotman predeceased her on October 6, 1991. She is the loving mother of Jeffrey W. of Pleasantville NY, Paul M. (Laurie) of Peterborough, NH, James P. of Cambria CA, Virginia M. of Larchmont NY, William J. of Evergreen CO, Mary J. Watson of Old Greenwich CT, and Kim A. (Scott) Bantle of Pacific Palisades CA. She has 10 grandchildren: Kara, Ryan, Courtney, Luke, Ian, Aidan, Emily, Taylor, Jackson, and Will. She has 1 great grandchild, Hadley. Mrs. Schlotman received her bachelors at the College of New Rochelle in 1940. A certified elementary and secondary school teacher she did postgraduate at the Newark State Teachers College, UCLA, 1977 and Carnegie Mellon University in 1980. She was a lecturer and publicity writer on the Circle Line, NYC from 1939-41. She then taught at the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula in NYC from 1941-1943 where she would later serve as the Director of Development and Alumni Relations from 1985-1988 From 1943-45 She was an interline ticketing and tariffs agent on the Pennsylvania Railroad where she would meet her future husband. From 1945-47 she was the Assistant Director of the arts program of the Association of American Colleges in NYC. Her teaching career continued at Holy Trinity School in Westfield, NJ from 1954-55, Our Lady of Mercy School in Port Chester, NY from 1964-1975, Sts. John and Paul School in Larchmont, NY from 1975 until her retirement in 1984. She was the drama coach at both Our Lady of Mercy and Sts. John and Paul Schools. Additionally, Mrs. Schlotman was an adult education teacher at Mamaroneck High School from 1978-81; a test composer for the Archdiocese of the City of NY; President of the Alumnae Chapter of the College of New Rochelle from 1970-85; docent of the Castle Gallery; Member of the Ladies of Charity of Larchmont and NYC; Recipient of the Ursula Laurus Award from the College of New Rochelle in 1975; a member of the Federation of Catholic Teachers, Retired Teachers Association, National Catholic Education Association, and the Larchmont Historical Society.
