Obituary of Jean Sutter Penn
Jean Sutter Penn, a Larchmont resident for 40 years, died suddenly of heart failure on Tuesday, September 3rd , two weeks shy of her 94th birthday. Mrs. Penn was the widow of J. Vaughn Penn, a long time Larchmont resident. Mrs. Penn was born Jean Elizabeth Sutter on September 17, 1919, in Hitchcock, South Dakota. Her parents, Louis Sutter and Theresa Anderson were prominent landowners in that state. During World War II, she worked for National Airlines, eventually settling in New York City. Thereafter, she worked in the fashion industry.
Mrs. Penn was well known in Larchmont, where she attended St. John's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club and the Larchmont Yacht Club. An avid and expert bridge player, Mrs. Penn was a keen competitor and popular partner in inter-club play.
Mrs. Penn is survived by three daughters, Valerie Youngblood of Brooklyn, N.Y., Victoria Beaman of Nashville, TN., Cordelia Jeffreys of Ortley Beach, N.J., and four grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church at 4 Fountain Square in Larchmont on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon.
