Obituary of John G. Hughes
John G. Hughes, a long-time Larchmont resident, passed away on Thursday, July 18, surrounded by his children. Jack, as he was known, was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on March 2, 1932. He graduated from the College of Holy Cross in 1954 and completed an MBA at New York University. He had a long, successful career in marketing and advertising in New York City at firms including Colgate -Palmolive, BBDO, Booz Allen Hamilton, and his startup, Wesco Promotions. He also inspired many in his field through his teaching as an adjunct professor at various colleges and universities, among them Fordham University and Iona College.
He is survived by four children, Joanne Pierleoni of New Fairfield, Connecticut, and her husband, Gregg; John G. Hughes Jr. of Harrison; David V. Hughes and his wife, Dixie, of Sweden; and Laurie V. Hughes and her husband, Scott Voelz, of Los Angeles. He was considered "Grandpa 1" to Steven, Chris, Michael, Megan, Debra, Katie, Kevin, John, and Grace.
He is predeceased by his first wife, the former Rita Val, and his second wife, Veronica Ryan Coleman.
He enjoyed traveling the world, and his journeys took him to many destinations within South America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East. One of the highlights of his journeys was a recent voyage through the Panama Canal.
Visiting hours on Sunday, July 21, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road in Larchmont. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 22, at 11 am at St. Augustine's Church in Larchmont. As a tribute to his devotion to his church, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Augustine's Church Fund or the St. Augustine's Christmas Fund, 18 Cherry Ave., Larchmont, NY 10538.
He will be dearly missed.
