Obituary of Alfred J Speiss
Alfred J. Spiess Jr. passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at home with family at his side. He was 86. Alfred was born on October 27, 1926 to the late Alfred and Ida Spiess of the Bronx, NY. Al served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II on both the European and Pacific fronts. He was a decorated veteran whose service ended in 1945 when he was wounded in battle. After his lengthy post-war recovery, Al continued his service for others through his work with the Leukemia Society where he promoted funding for research and retired as the Executive Vice President.
However, it was during his early years in the Bronx that his life-long passion for the New York Football Giants and the New York Yankees was cultivated.
Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Fluff: his loving daughter, Daryl (Spiess) Thompson: a nephew, Gareth Todd and 2 nieces, Laurette Gachter and Lynette Todd. In addition, he is survived by Jax, the family's loving rescue dog who Al dearly loved. His son, Alfred Spiess, III (Boogie), predeceased him in 1982.
A private Interment Service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 8, 2013. A memorial service/reception will be held from 5pm to 9pm at the American Legion Post 347, Flint Park, Larchmont, NY where both Al and Fluff were active members for many years.
