Obituary of Catherine Docherty
Catherine Docherty long time resident of New Rochelle, NY passed away March 16, 2013 at the Sound Shore Medical Center.
Cathie was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to the USA when she was 19, to join and help raise the children of the Block and Spinrad family as an Au Pare. During that time she became a U.S. Citizen while sharing her love, her patience, her sense of humor and Scottish wit with an ever growing family who became like her own. Eventually, Cathie went on to work for others in need, but always remained a part of the Family that brought her to this country. Cathie had a deep love of cats and always had a special feline to keep her company. She spent many hours volunteering for her church and the hospital, to which she was deeply devoted. When time allowed, Cathie loved to shop, take day trips sightseeing and visiting her native Scotland. Cathie was a caregiver in the truest sense. She always gave to others without any personal agenda other than because she loved to give. She loved her family deeply and was loved deeply in return. Cathie was predeceased by her 6 siblings, her parents and several very close friends.
Survivors are a sister-in-law, Margaret and many nieces and nephews who reside in Scotland, and her extended American family, the Blocks and Spinrads, including her two acquired "daughters", Michel Spinrad Sturm and Evalyn Block Merrick and the woman who welcomed Cathie into her home and family, Carol Spinrad. Cathie also leaves behind her dearest friend, Maureen Innes, also from Glasgow.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at The Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church at the corner of Larchmont Ave. and Forest Park Ave. in The Village of Larchmont.
Donations can be made to the Humane Society of Larchmont or The Larchmont Town Presbyterian Church in honor of Cathie.
