Obituary of Barbara Keleman
Barbara Keleman passed away on February 19 in New York City at the age of 78, surrounded by family and friends.
Barbara led a rich and colorful life. A strong, dynamic, and fiercely independent woman, the Brooklyn native took New York by storm in the '60s, tirelessly advocating for women's rights, participating in political campaigns and a few protests as well (see photo).
Throughout a career that spanned more than half a century, she worked in a variety of fields — from fashion to market research — as an executive administrator, political consultant and market researcher. In 1988 she established her successful research firm, Keleman Associates, where she served such clients as ESPN, NBC and Disney.
Barbara also served on the community board of the Upper West Side, was a member of the Health and Hospitals Committee for Community Board 7 and worked as a community liaison for Roosevelt Hospital for decades.
She is survived by her son Robert, grandsons Sam and Jacob, and older sister Corinne. And of course, many adoring friends, extended family and fans. She will be missed by all but her wonderful sense of humor and generous spirit lives on in our hearts.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made to Roosevelt Hospital Development Dept., 555 W. 57th Street, NY, NY, 10019 or at support@stlukesroosevelt.org in Barbara's memory.
