Obituary of Catherine Fleming
Catherine Hayes Fleming, of Larchmont, N.Y., died peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 2, 2013. She was 87 years old. Born October 5, 1925 in Astoria, NY to Patrick J. Hayes and Annie Finnegan. Kate was a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, and devout parishioner. A life-long artist and poet, she received her Bachelors Degree from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1947 and her Master of Art Education from the College of New Rochelle in 1977. She served as an editor at Funk & Wagnalls in Manhattan, and later as a grammar school teacher and art instructor at Holy Family in New Rochelle, and Sts. John and Paul and St. Augustine in Larchmont. Her commitment to photographing the events and goings-on of St. Augustine Church made her an invaluable member of the parish. People loved that she always found their good side. Her love continues to live on through her children, Mary (Alan) Stein, Marykate (Brian) Ledig, and James (Lisa) Fleming and her grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Bryan, and Peter Stein and James Krull. She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Edward T. Fleming and her brother Patrick Hayes Jr. Friends are invited to call at John J. Fox Funeral Home, Boston Post Road, Larchmont, N.Y. on Thursday, February 7th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Roman Catholic burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 8th at 10 AM at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens.
