Obituary of Elizabeth Urena
Elizabeth Ureña, age 54, of Carmel, NY, passed away on November 27, 2024. She was born in the Bronx, NY, on July 7, 1971. Elizabeth was the world’s toughest single mom and the daughter of Diana Villiman-Ureña and the late Francisco Ureña.
Elizabeth is survived by her beloved children: Eddie Hurtado and his wife, Alyssa Hurtado, of Mamaroneck, NY; Elijah Ureña-Hernandez; and Ethan Ureña-Iglesia, both of Carmel, NY. She was also the world’s strongest sister to Chico Ureña, Auria Ureña, Eduardo Ureña, Raysa Ureña-Alvarez, Nery Ureña-Flores, and Jackie Mendez.
Elizabeth was gorgeous, charismatic, charming, stubborn, witty, inappropriate, and, most importantly, affectionate. She fearlessly spoke her mind and passionately fought for what she believed in. Her heart was open to anyone needing a friend, and her doors were open to anyone needing a home. She believed in a million chances but did not give them away lightly.
Her boys were her world, and she did everything she could to provide for them. Nothing came easy for Elizabeth, but she never wavered. She gave her three boys everything they needed and wanted—by any means necessary. At times, her love could be overbearing, but the comfort of knowing she always had your back was like a diamond shield. She achieved her dream of watching all three of her boys graduate from Carmel High School.
For six years, Elizabeth bravely battled Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. To the outside world, it often seemed as though she was winning. Relentlessly, she fought tooth and nail to ensure no one treated her differently—despite deserving to be pampered. This was because Elizabeth Ureña was the world’s toughest single mother! What some may have viewed as pride was, in fact, her way of setting an example: to never let anything change who you are. Love yourself—even the not-so-good parts.
Now, no longer in pain, Elizabeth is at peace, reunited in her father’s embrace.
“Hi Mom,
I hope you’re seeing everyone you’ve wanted to see and giving lots of love to Mina and Chrissy. I’m happy you can be with your dad. You would always say, ‘It just happened too soon, yes, but maybe it was for a reason.’ Normally, I’d question your motives, but this time I won’t, because I’m sure this must have happened for a good reason. Also, you would have just said, ‘Because I’m your mother.’ Lastly, thanks for doing everything to keep me in Carmel. I love you.”
—Ethan
Elizabeth is also survived by several noble nieces and nephews: Helen, Hillary, Jiry, Chicky, Ray, Rosy, Franklin, Deanna, AJ, Stephanie, Brianna, Brian, and Elyse. She is also survived by many admirable cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was predeceased by her most beloved sister, Juanita Ureña.
Elizabeth's family will receive friends at The John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538 on Saturday December 7, 2024, from 2:00PM until 4:00 PM and again from 7:00PM until 9:00PM.
