Alan Alexander Bartlett McDowell
Father, husband, son, brother, nephew, uncle, grandson, friend. Teammate, captain, camaro driver, golfer, runner, mountain biker, man of many pull-ups. Introspector, melophile, charmer, humorist, construction worker. Lawyer, partner, translator, square dancer, social worker, lacrosse dad, patient, warrior... a sensitive, tenderhearted man.
On November 10, 2024, Alan passed away peacefully with his family and friends at his side. He was 61 years old. He battled his glioblastoma with heroic effort and a grateful heart. His greatest success and joy in life was being a father to Frances.
Alan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Maureen Patricia Meehan; his daughter, Frances Meehan McDowell; his mother Carter Donnan McDowell of Richmond, VA; his brothers Roy Wheatley McDowell (Barrie) of Richmond, VA and Lindsay Donnan McDowell (MariCris) of Cranbury, NJ; nieces & nephews Kathryn Jeffrey McDowell Martell (Will), Malcolm Douglas McDowell (Liz), Connor Paulin McDowell, and Avery Virginia McDowell; and his wild-hearted dog Ozzie. Alan is preceded in death by his father Charles Lindsay McDowell of Richmond, VA.
A celebration of Alan's life will take place in Larchmont, NY in late January. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Community Counseling Center.
