My name is James Martin. Dr.Olssen operated on me for prostate cancer in 2001, shortly after the 9/11 attack. He made me feel safe and hopeful right from the start. I believe he saved my life and I was so sad when he left Columbia. I actually did not see another urologist for quite a few years as no one could measure up to him as a man and as a doctor. My best memory was after an digital exam I asked him if I could give him a hug and he said," not till you pull up your pants!" I did and he hugged. Please accept my deepest condolences and loving memories of a giant.

I worked with Dr O at Presbyterian Hospital in the operating room. I learned to love classical music playing his classical tapes while he operated. He was stern and had a great sense of humor. He loved messing with residents new to urology. He got whatever he needed for his cases. There was no telling him no or wait. Rest in peace Dr O.

I did not know this fine doctor, I did graduate from Bowdoin and grew up in Larchmont where he sailed. I want to express my condolences to his family and admire your great relative.

Dear Olsson Family,
Sorry to hear about Dr. Olsson’s passing. Dr. Olsson saved my life by performing a radical cystectomy back in 1995. He also saved my father’s life by performing a radical prostatectomy. He was a great surgeon. Our prayers are with him.
Regards,
James W. Moffett & Family

Carl was a great “boss “ and even better friend for more than half of my life. He was passionate in everything he did whether it was winning the race to find new techniques for the treatment of diseases or sailing to a first place win on his beloved Morning Glory.
Fair Winds and Following Seas, my friend.

I am saddened to hear the sad new of my old boss Dr. Olsson. I was his last Executive Assistant at Columbia and I can say that without a doubt he will be missed. I worked with him for 6 years and boy was he tough but he made me the tough cookie I am today. RIP Boss!
