Obituary of Catherine M. McMahon
Catherine M. McMahon (nee Fitzgerald) entered our Lord's home on
January 11, 2013. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Catherine was born on January 30, 1919 in New York City to Michael
Fitzgerald and Anna (O'Shea) Fitzgerald, Irish immigrants from County
Limerick, Ireland. She was the 2nd child and only daughter. Her older
brother was Edward who passed away in 1981 and John (Bud) who passed
away in 1991. Known as "Sis" to her family, she attended St. Gabriel's
Academy and graduated from Julia Richmond High School. She moved to
the Bronx after the untimely death of her mother. Catherine was a
parishoner of Our Lady of the Assumption and was a member of the 1st
graduating class of the school. In 1947 she married Henry J McMahon
(deceased Janaury 5, 1982), a resident of Country Club, the Bronx. She
resided in the Bronx until 1981 when she moved to Scarsdale, NY. She
remained in Scarsdale for many years and was a member of the Senior
Program and Services, Eastchester, NY, and a parishoner of Our Lady of
Fatima. Catherine, known to all as Kay, worked for the Metropolitan
LIfe Insurance Company in a supervisory capacity. She retired in 1981
and spent her days knitting, crocheting, reading and spending time
with her family and grandchildren who called her Nana Kay. She spent
her summers in Newport, RI with her daughter Catherine (Cathy). She
loved baseball especially the Yankees.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Richard) Sheehan of
Newport,RI and Vero Beach, FL and her son, James (Maureen) of Pelham
Manor, NY and her adoring grandchildren, Sean of Scarsdale, NY and
Colleen(Brian Healey) of Schenectady, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Annunciation,
Crestwood, NY will take place on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 9:45AM
officiated by Monsignor Dennis Keane. Entombment to follow at Gate of
Heaven Cementary, Hawthorne, NY.
