Obituary of Thomas Joseph Stuart

Thomas Joseph Stuart (90) passed away peacefully in his
sleep on December 30, 2023. A longtime resident of

Larchmont, NY, Tom is survived by his son and daughter-in-
law, Tommy and Karen, and his four grandchildren, Thomas

Dwyer, Finbar O’Sullivan, Brendan Quinn, and Fiona
Elizabeth Stuart, along with extended family across New
York, Canada, and Ireland. He is predeceased by his parents,
Thomas and Rose Stuart, his brother Bartholomew, and his
beloved wife, Helen Quinn Stuart.
Tom was born on August 30th, 1933 in New York City and
grew up outside the Catskill Mountains on a farm in Esopus,
New York. He enlisted in the Marines after graduating from
New Paltz High School, serving on the front line during the
Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Tom earned his
Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY New Paltz and a Master’s in
Teaching from the Cornell School of Agriculture in Ithaca,
New York.
Tom taught Physics at Port Chester High School, where he
met the love of his life, Helen Quinn, at a teachers’ bowling
league. They got married at St. Augustine’s Church in 1965
where they remained active parishioners throughout their

lives. As teachers, Tom and Helen were able to spend their
summers traveling across the country and Europe. After
retiring in 1993, Tom spent his time volunteering at Hope
Community Services in New Rochelle and Mother Theresa’s

Cupboard located in the Bronx, NY. An avid reader and lover
of The Arts, Tom enjoyed the theater, visiting the local library,
poring through used and independent bookstores, and
browsing through museum exhibits in the city. Tom, a
devoted husband and father, adored his four grandchildren,
often taking them on fun and educational adventures.
After Tom’s health began to deteriorate, the family decided
to move in together so that Tommy could care for his father.
Even as Tom's health continued to decline, he always made
it out to the living room for Jeopardy and Wheel and Fortune.
Those years were a great gift for all and he will be dearly
missed.
There will be a funeral service held at Saint Augustine’s
Church in Larchmont,NY on Saturday, March 9th at 10:30
