September 16, 1940 – September 26, 2023

Ann Marie Benford of Larchmont, NY passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023 at Calvary Hospital.

Ann was born on September 16, 1940 and raised alongside her sister Kathleen in the Bronx, New York, by James and Mary Lawlor. She met her husband Sylvester “Gerry” Benford 60 years ago. They married in 1967 and started a family in Riverdale before moving to a home in Larchmont in 1980. Ann juggled competing schedules, made holidays magical, collected beautiful art, and welcomed generations of guests to her home. Funny and insightful, she was devoted to her family and passionate about her Irish heritage.

Ann attended St. Pius V High School in the Bronx. She earned a BA in Art History from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and a degree in interior design from the Parson’s School of Design. She taught religious education at Sts. John & Paul Church and was an active member of the parish.

Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Gerry Benford; children Patricia Housman, Christopher Benford, and John Benford; and daughters-in-law Margaret Kitses Benford and Kaitlin Regan Benford. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: John Patrick, Gracie, Nash, Owen, Mairead, and Catherine. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved mother Mary Lawlor, father James Lawlor, and sister Kathleen Hyland.

Visiting will be Friday, September 29th, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A Mass will be celebrated for Ann on Saturday, September 30th, at 10 AM at Sts. John & Paul Church in Larchmont. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Larchmont Volunteer Ambulance Corps or Calvary Hospital.
