Obituary of Arthur Lee Wheeler
Mr. Arthur Lee Wheeler, age 90, passed away peacefully at home in White Plains, NY on Saturday June 24 th , 2023. Arthur was born on July 28 th , 1932 in Sanford, Florida to Charlie Wheeler and Luceel Anderson, who both worked as farm laborers. Arthur served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, where he achieved the rank of Sergeantand was discharged honorably from Active Duty. He continued living in Florida before relocating to Rochester, New York, where he met his beloved wife Claire. Arthur and Claire married on January 8 th , 1972, and remained married until her passing in 2022. Arthur worked in construction for Marlin Flooring Company. He was a devout Christian, and long-time member of Aenon Baptist Church where he drove the church van for many years. Arthur was also a deeply loving husband, father, and friend, who was a reserved yet integral part of every community he was a part of. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, waking up with the sunrise, driving, and serving his community. He was a devoted father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruby, and his wife Claire. He is survived by his daughter Tracey Thomas Travis and son-in-law Richard Travis, granddaughters Alexandria Travis Delehanty and Adrienne Travis, as well as several longtime friends. Arthur was often soft spoken, but had a treasure trove of stories, an incisive wit, and fierce determination, care, and love for those special people in his life. He loved his wife Claire more than anyone could imagine, and that love shone throughout their marriage, from their early days of courtship where he’d pick her up from work and take her dancing, to their later years when he was her most devoted caretaker. Arthur had many roles and many names, from Wheelie, Hoppa, Grandpa, Dad, and Arthur Lee. His loss is deeply felt, though we are heartened
that he is reunited with his beloved Claire, who has patiently been waiting for her loving Arthur Lee to join her in heaven.
