Obituary of Dr. Lung Ming Wei

Dr. Lung Ming Wei, M.D. FRCS, FACS, FACOG, of Larchmont, NY, son of Jin Hua Song and Jin Long Wei of Taiwan, died at age 87 on January 21, 2023. Dr. Wei graduated from the prestigious National Taiwan University College of Medicine in 1962. In 1963, he moved to America to begin his medical/surgical career as a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, which further continued at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada and then as a Fellow at the University of Illinois Research and Education Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. In 1972, he became an Attending Gynecological Physician at Lincoln Medical Hospital in New York where he would flourish as a physician, surgeon, and educator at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and then New York Medical College. As the Deputy Director and Chief of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Wei was a passionate and devoted teacher and mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows in medicine and in his specialty of OB/GYN.  He took great pride in the various accolades he received during his 30 years of tireless service to the hospitals, medical schools, and to the thousands of patients he served. Notable awards include 3 Dedication of Service Certificates, 9 years of top Resident Teaching Awards, and 2 National Faculty Awards for Excellence  in Resident Education given by the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  

Dr. Wei raised his family and resided in Larchmont, NY since 1973, and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane, his beloved children James and Catherine (husband Joel), beloved grandchildren Joel and Malia, and his 8 siblings Tuan Tuan, Pin-Huiung, Chaur-Chin, Teh-Ming, Steve, Feng-Hsi, Shiang-Yun, and Harrison. Final resting place will be in the King Memorial Library, Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
