Jack Blumenfrucht died at his home in Riverdale, NY, on June 11, 2026, after a long and debilitating neurological illness coupled with Lewy Body dementia. He was 82 years old. Up until his final day, he demonstrated strength and a deep love for his family.

Jack was born in Switzerland in 1944, with his parents as émigrés during WWII. The family settled in Brussels, Belgium, where Jack attended school and graduated from the Solvay Business School of Economics and Management. He worked in Paris and London before settling in New York City, where he worked in corporate finance on mergers and acquisitions. In later years, he parlayed this experience into an import/export business.

People were his love and focus. He was a great talker and never left a cab ride or conversation with a server without having discussed the world.

For many years, he was involved in Social Action at Larchmont Temple, especially the Midnight Run. He also participated in Chevrah Torah, where he was a lively voice.

Jack was an athlete—an avid tennis player, skier, and runner. On his 80th birthday, his family took him to ski with Vermont Adaptive, where he whooped as he descended the slopes during a blizzard.

An opportunity to work from home, long before it became standard, afforded him the chance to be daily involved in his children’s lives. He welcomed everyone and was never happier than when he had a room full of people to feed.

The joy of his life was his children—waited for and warmly welcomed. He loved being able to be a kid among kids.

He is survived by his partner of over 40 years, Ann Walle; their children, Sara (Lino) and Max (Ryann); and grandson Jack. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Maged (Mark). He was the crazy uncle to nieces and nephews in both the Maged and Walle families. His beloved cats, Teya and Kaya, both died last year. He is also survived by caregiver Sandra Cooke, who matched him wit for wit. The family is grateful to Calvary Hospice at Home and to the many witnesses who helped them during Jack’s illness.

Capturing a life is impossible, especially for someone who lived so large. He filled our home with music, dancing, jokes (an occasional good one), meals, loudness, arguments that were not arguments to him, and sentimentality.

A service will be held at Larchmont Temple in Larchmont, NY, on June 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Shiva will be held in Larchmont Temple’s Garden Room from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Larchmont Temple or WQXR. Both institutions filled his days, brought forth his emotions, and swelled his soul.
