Carolyn Chubet Obituary

Carolyn Turman Chubet, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 31st in Larchmont, surrounded by family. She was 78 years old.

Born on October 27th, 1947 and raised in Dallas,Texas and Camp Meeker in Sonoma County, California, Carolyn graduated from The Hockaday School and Washington University in Saint Louis. The latter is where she met her future husband Tom who would be her partner for the next 55 years.

After college, they moved to New York City where they began their married and professional lives. They also started sailing on the Long Island sound and joined the Larchmont Yacht Club in the mid-70s. After having two sons, they outgrew their space on the Upper East Side and moved to Larchmont, NY, where they raised their family.

Carolyn was a force in the Town of Mamaroneck ice hockey community. In the mid 80’s, the local rink was in a bubble with an uncertain future. She took it upon herself to found and head up the Hommocks Ice Rink Association. Between fundraising activities and obtaining permits, she was relentless in leading the board instrumental in building the permanent ice rink that a thriving hockey community still enjoys today.

Carolyn had a successful career in publishing with stints at Harper’s Bazaar, Time Life, Practical HomeOwner and Reader’s Digest. She also authored a series of early parenting books.

A dedicated matriarch, Carolyn cherished time spent with her children and four grandchildren, who knew her lovingly as “Mimi.” Lying on the sandy beaches of the Russian River and Nantucket always brought her great joy. Her favorite place in the world was the family cabin in Camp Meeker where she spent summers growing up and then passed down to her kids.

She enjoyed a good book, a Sunday Times crossword puzzle and taking her kids to the movies with a pack of their friends. She always welcomed them back to her home afterwards with the best snacks in the neighborhood.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Tom of Larchmont, NY; her sons, John and his wife, Mev, of Brooklyn, NY; and Charlie and his wife Kelly, of New Rochelle, NY; and four beloved grandchildren Logan (13), Lucas (10), Sarina (10), and Sofia (9). Additionally, she leaves behind her nieces Ashley (Tom) of Santa Barbara, CA, Quincey (Tim) of San Mateo, CA, Francie of Los Angeles, CA and nephew Robert (Mindy) of Washington D.C. as well as several cherished great-nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends. She is predeceased by her sisters Francie and Linda and her parents Frances and Hobart.

Carolyn’s humor, kindness, and love for those closest to her defined who she was. Now she is at peace, and her presence will live in our hearts forever.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service in Carolyn’s honor on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 4 Fountain Square, Larchmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Swim Across America or Saint John’s Espiscopal Church in Carolyn’s honor.
