He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Lieutenant Commander and Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Princeton and Coral Sea. He also worked at several private practices during his career. He was a member of the New York Ophthalmological Society for over 40 years, at one time holding the role of president. Even after retirement, Michael remained deeply committed to medical research and development, frequently visiting the lab in an effort to further understand and treat ophthalmological conditions.

He was a member of Wykagyl Country Club for over 50 years, where he developed lifelong friendships and could often be found sitting by the pool reading Scientific American or taking his daily swim.
An avid horticulturist, Michael devoted countless hours to tending to his roses, vegetable garden, or the variety of flowers in his greenhouse. He had a lifelong love of travel and never passed up an opportunity for a trip, sometimes taking him to faraway continents. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren, taking immense pride in their lives and accomplishments.
