Obituary of Dona Jean Bishop
Dona Jean Bishop died peacefully on January 22, 2026 at the age of 94. In her final days she was surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. Dona was born on April 15th, 1931 in Akron, Ohio. Her parents were Mabel and John Davies. Dona had two siblings. She was predeceased by her older sister Jacqueline J. Davies (Sabin) and her twin brother Donald, who passed away at the age of 10 months.
Dona attended Kent State University in Ohio and came to New York to seek employment. It was then that she answered an ad for a position at Bishop Studios, the photo retouching business of her late husband Bob. They fell in love and they married and happily raised three sons in Larchmont, New York: Christopher, Michael, and William “Billy” (Allison). Dona was also a warm and attentive Stepmother to Robert Jr. (deceased), Linda, and Patricia (deceased). Dona lost the love of her life, Robert W Bishop “Bob”, in 2011 after 55 years of marriage. Dona was a beloved grandmother of 15 and a great-grandmother of 7. ]
Dona spent countless hours at the Larchmont Yacht Club where she built life- long family friends that were an extended family to the Bishops. She lived an active and happy social life, spending time with her family sailing on the Long Island Sound, playing tennis, and swimming. In the winter months, she drove up to Smugglers Notch for skiing. These memories were a source of comfort for Dona in the past year. In reminiscing about her life, she would often express gratitude and awe at the fact that her life has been truly wonderful.
Dona was a beautiful person in every way, and all who were lucky enough to know her will miss her forever. Whenever someone told Dona that they loved her, Dona would reply "love you more." Her spirit lives on in her family and loved ones.
