Mortimer P. Lowenfeld, 96, passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Mort had been living with his daughter and son-in-law in Larchmont, NY since moving from Rockville, MD in 2023. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Physics. After college, he served in the Army in Huntsville, AL where he worked as a nuclear engineer. After the army, Mort had three careers, including as a nuclear engineer at various companies before becoming a stockbroker and finally, a personal investment advisor after retiring from Prudential Bache Securities in 1984.

A lifelong learner, Mort enjoyed reading, listening to classical music and opera, tending to his roses and tomatoes, and monitoring the stock market. He seemed most happy when he was with family.

He is survived by his children, Ellen Walker (Robert), Ilene Rome (William), Ed Lowenfeld (Natalie), five grandchildren, Leigh (Sam), Danielle (Jay), Marc, Steven (Daisy) and Caroline, and three great grandchildren, Dahlia, Lennox and Colin. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, in 1998.

A funeral will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 19th, followed immediately by interment at Judean Memorial Gardens (16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, MD).

The family will observe shiva at the home of Ilene and William (5 Daymon Terrace, Larchmont, NY) on Saturday, September 20th, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. (with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.), and on Sunday, September 21st, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.
