Obituary of Irvin L. Cherashore

Irvin L. Cherashore, “Irv,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on September 7, 2025, at the age of 90. He was a resident of Vero Beach, FL and formerly of Larchmont, NY. Irv was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Mary, “Toni,” (nee Fahey), his three children Kathryn, “Kaycee,” Matthew (Julia) and Lindsay, and his granddaughter Sophia. Irv is also survived by his nephews David Cherashore (Grace) and Eric Cherashore (Linda) and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Spencer. Irv was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 12, 1935, to Helen Lee and David Cherashore. He was a proud graduate of Germantown Academy (1953), before earning a degree from Lehigh University (1957). He married the love of his life, Toni, on June 3, 1972.

In addition to being blessed with a wonderful family, Irv also enjoyed a successful Wall Street career, spanning more than six decades. Most recently, he worked at Tocqueville Asset Management. Prior to joining Tocqueville in 2013, Irv was Chairman and Director at The Winchester Group, Inc., which he had co-founded in 1990. During his career, he also held positions at Stamford Company, Sterling Grace & Co., and was a partner at Abraham & Co., which later merged with Lehman Brothers where he was President of Lehman Securities. He served as a director of several publicly owned banks. Irv was also a proud member of The National Institute of Social Sciences.

Irv had the unique gift to make friends with almost anyone and gave freely of his time, resources and wisdom. He spent many years on the Board at the Larchmont Shore Club, including serving as its President. He founded the Larchmont Shore Club sailing program in 1988, which continues to introduce children to the joy of sailing. The consummate raconteur, Irv had a natural talent for storytelling and was never happier than when sitting on the terrace at the Larchmont Shore Club entertaining family and friends with his endless
repertoire of jokes and stories.

A gentleman of great intellect, humor, and integrity, he will be remembered as a true Renaissance man, who was knowledgeable and passionate about music, movies, food, wine, and travel. More importantly, Irv will be remembered as a loving husband, a caring father, an adoring grandfather, a beloved “Uncle Irv” to so many, and a wise and compassionate friend who delighted in helping others. His was a life well lived by a manwell loved.

To celebrate Irv’s life, there will be a wake on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at John J. Fox Funeral Home, Larchmont, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. John & Paul Church, 280 Weaver Street Larchmont, NY 10538.
