Obituary of Mary Barbara Tribit Zampino
Mary T. Zampino – Larchmont, NY
1944 - 2025
With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Barbara Tribit Zampino, formerly of Briarcliff Manor, New York, on July 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 17, 1944 to Samuel and Lena Tribit in Darien, Connecticut. Mary spent most of her formative years in Hawthorne, NY. Mary received her undergraduate degree from Marymount College and a Master’s in Education from Fairfield University.
When Mary was still in high school, she would babysit for her neighbor, who was learning disabled and as a result she developed a passion for helping others with learning disabilities and was inspired to become a special education teacher. She taught emotionally and learning disabled children at both the Clearview School and Eagle Hill. After her daughters were born, because she wanted to spend more time with them, Mary stepped away from teaching for a time. She never lost her passion for wanting to help others and later became an adjunct professor at Manhattanville working to inspire a new generation of special education teachers. Mary always loved to tell stories about her time teaching and how special each of her students were. She felt that all anyone ever needed to excel was someone to believe in and encourage them.
After her retirement and birth of her first granddaughter, Sabrina, Mary and her husband, John, moved to Larchmont to spend more time with her growing family. Shortly after her move, her grandson, John was born. Nothing was more important to Mary than her children, Sarah and Ana and her grandchildren. Ana and her husband, Andrew, would join in moving to Larchmont with their son Aidan, and Maddie, their daughter, was born a few years later. Mary enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family and showering her grandchildren with love. One of her favorite sayings was “what happens at Grannie’s house, stays at Grannie’s house”. She was equally as adored by her family. Mary loved taking everyone on adventures – whether it was bringing 3 generations to Darien where she was born, New York City for a quick visit, a concert or Broadway show (she loved music), shopping excursions or her favorite museums. Mary loved to travel and would plan surprise adventures from Disney to Europe for the whole family! Mary also loved collecting children’s books and was a member of the Sheridan Libraries Board at the Johns Hopkins University.
Mary will be missed profoundly by her friends and family.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, John. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Jonathan Bauer and their two children, Sabrina and John, as well as her daughter Ana Zampino and son-in-law Andrew O’Neill, and their two children, Aidan and Madison.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. A memorial service will be held at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont, NY on August 1, 2025 at 10am.
