Obituary of James J. Hughes

James J. Hughes, 84, of Larchmont, NY, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, after a long illness.

James, who was known as "Jim", was born on January 5, 1941, in the Bronx, New York. He resided in Larchmont for over fifty years, becoming a fixture on Hillcrest Avenue.

A graduate of Manhattan College and the City College of New York, Jim worked as a school psychologist at the Louis M. Klein Middle School in Harrison, NY for 36 years. Before that, he served for two years in the U.S. Army. In addition, he was an adjunct professor at the City University of New York, the College of New Rochelle, and Westchester Community College.

Jim was a loving husband to his wife, Eileen, a devoted father to their three sons, Christopher, Timothy, and Kieran, and his five grandchildren. He was a member of the Larchmont Shore Club, active at St. John and Paul Church, and a friend to all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Eileen Hughes, who passed in 2012.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the Larchmont Shore Club at noon.

Visitation will take place at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, N.Y. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
