Obituary of Bryan Edward Doherty
Bryan E. Doherty Sr. of New Rochelle, NY passed away in his home on Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at the age of 94. Bryan was born in Larchmont, NY on July 18th, 1930 to Sidney and Elizabeth (Murphy) Doherty. He attended St. Augustine Grammar School, graduating in 1944 and Blessed Sacrament High School, graduating in 1948. Bryan’s childhood was the beginning of his lifelong residency in New Rochelle and Larchmont.
In 1952, Bryan enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country during The Korean War. He was stationed in France, where he wrote for his base’s newspaper. In 1956, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time abroad, he met his wife of nearly 69 years, Maureen (Deane) Doherty, where he famously told her he was “serious about getting serious” with her after only a few dates. They began their long life together in France, before returning home to New Rochelle where they began their family. Bryan was the proud father of three sons, Bryan Jr. (Catherine), Kevin (Phyllis), and Timothy (Michelle). After returning home, Bryan enrolled in New York University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts in 1961. He went on to have a successful career as an editor at Fairchild Publications.
One of Bryan’s greatest joys was being a Grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, Jenna, Samantha, Krista (Mark), Jack, and Kyle. He would play with them for hours on end as children; drive them to and from school and any of their activities, without question, as teenagers; and supplied them with endless amounts of Chinese food.
Bryan and Maureen always made sure to keep busy. Bryan loved summers at The Shore Club where he could be found swimming laps and running around after his grandchildren. He enjoyed walks through the Manor with Maureen, reading mystery novels on his back porch, watching The Mets, attending weekly mass at St. Augustine’s, and reading his newspaper (which he continued to receive in print each day until the end of his life).
Bryan is predeceased by his wife; mother, father, and stepmother, Ann Doherty; his siblings Sidney (Laura Beth), Richard, and Eileen (James); and step sister, Kathleen. Bryan is survived by his children; grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Dawn) and Gene (Ann); step-sisters, Sister Mary Alice and Patricia; and many nieces and nephews.
To honor Bryan’s life, family and friends will gather at Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 4th from 4-8pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 5th, at 10:00 am at Saint Augustine’s Church, Larchmont, NY, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre, New Rochelle, NY.
