R E S O L U T I O N
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13
WHEREAS the Almighty God in His infinite wisdom has called from our midst on Friday, May 9, 2025, our Sister Thelma Rhodes from her earthly labours to her heavenly rest and that,
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4); and,
WHEREAS we are again reminded that such a sad time eventually comes to us all. Yet, we need not fear when we remain close to God. To you, the bereaved family and friends, we admit that mere words are inadequate to express the sorrow of Shiloh Baptist Church at the passing of our Sister Thelma Rhodes, who joined Shiloh in March 1986 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Calvin G. Sampson, Sr.; and
WHEREAS we are assured that with God’s grace our grief can be transformed into something beautiful, we are also comforted in the knowledge that God’s grace can also bring us comfort and it can give us a deeper understanding of His love. His grace can strengthen our faith in our Lord and Savior. Out of the ashes of grief can spring flowers of hope, flowers of love and
flowers of beauty. So, when sad thoughts, and grief assail you, trust in the Lord and reflect on the joys you shared together, and be also assured that God’s grace will transform sadness into joy. We are confident that the love of God heals all grief and pain; and,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Shiloh Baptist Church family will miss our beloved sister, but we are comforted in knowing that there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be given to the family of and that a copy be kept in the records of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Attested this 28th Day of May 2025.
Humbly submitted,
Deacon David P. Nelson

Aidyn Lurie posted a condolence
Saturday, May 17, 2025
To the family of Thelma Rhodes,
My name is Aidyn Lurie. From 2003-2009, Thelma was my aid for the entirety of my time at Chatsworth Elementary. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes just months prior to starting Kindergarten at Chatsworth. My parents, having no prior knowledge or family history of Type 1 Diabetes, entrusted Thelma with my life, as she was responsible for escorting me to the Nurse’s office multiple times a day so Nurse Carey could test my blood sugar, monitor me closely in case I displayed any signs of high or low blood sugar, carry around necessary medical supplies as well as snacks & juice in case of an emergency.
Thelma is the reason my parents did not have to spend the entirety of their work days worrying about my health & safety. She went above & beyond for me, prioritized my health, & tolerated the rambunctious behavior & mischief that ensued when my best friends Michael Davis, Leanne Almazan, & myself would convene during school.
I will NEVER forget Thelma & the impact she has had on my life. This woman helped raise me, was the only person my parents trusted with my life, & will always be a part of my family. My heart is broken & I extend my deepest condolences to her family & feel it is imperative that they’re aware of the role she played in my life and how appreciated she was. I will always love & never forget her.

Dear family of Thelma,
We are so sorry for your loss. Whoever wrote the obituary captured Thelma's true essence! I will always remember our little get togethers now and then. Sometimes at the local Mexican restaurant but mostly she liked to cook in her apartment, and she was a good cook! My husband would see Thelma while she was on duty as a crossing guard and she was always with a smile. She was a gentle soul and will be dearly remembered. Rest easy dear friend. Liz and Len Ricci
