Jacqueline Schlosser

Obituary of Jacqueline Kay Schlosser

Dorothy Jacqueline Kay Schlosser died on May 3, 2025 after a short illness. She was born in Montreal in 1931 to Dorothy A. Kay and Stuart E. Kay. She had an older brother, the late Dr. Stuart A. Kay.

Called by her middle name all of her life, Jacqueline (Jackie) grew up in Larchmont and New Rochelle, New York. Jackie graduated from Abbot Academy (now Phillips Academy, Andover). She continued on to Middlebury College, where she majored in art history.

After college, Jackie worked in sales at the distinguished Kraushaar Galleries in New York City, where she befriended several well known artists of the era. She met her future husband of nearly 60 years, the late Alfred M. Schlosser, who had visited as a customer and struck up a conversation with young Jackie. They were subsequently married in 1959.

Jackie and Alfred raised their family in Larchmont, where she remained until moving in 2023 to nearby Rye Brook. An avid volunteer in Larchmont, Jackie jumped in wherever needed. She was a member of the Larchmont Women’s Club, The Larchmont Garden Club and St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she was a committed parishioner and member of the Altar Guild for many years. When her daughter wanted to join the Girl Scouts and couldn’t because of a lack of leaders, Jackie became a troop leader and became a passionate leader for the local troop.

Jackie and Alfred traveled extensively and shared a common passion for the arts and fine food. She had a large group of friends, including her lifelong friend from birth, The Rev. Dorothy Anne Greene. Jackie was a gourmet cook who could elevate an everyday meal, while also discussing an upcoming opera and local sports or culture. She enjoyed weekly Canasta games at Century Country Club, where she was a member for 65 years, and completed the New York Times crossword puzzle nearly every day.

Jackie is survived by her three children: Andrew (Robbi Boston) of Marshfield, MA; Elizabeth (Stephen Brodt) of New Orleans, LA; and Benjamin (Liz), of Cornelius, NC; and also by seven grandchildren whom she adored, and all of whom adored her (William, Samantha, Rachel, Evan, Madeleine, Bradford and Kerry). She was also pre- deceased by her beloved son-in-law, Albert Vanderhoof.

Jackie had a very keen sense of humor and was always engaging and delightful to be around. As one of her aides said, “she had a way of making everyone feel seen and appreciated, and I was no exception.” She instilled in her family an abundance of life skills, humor and positive qualities -- and will be missed dearly.

The family will have a private, family funeral, which Jackie had requested. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Jackie’s memory to Girl Scouts Larchmont-Mamaroneck (https://www.girlscoutshh.org/en/support-us.html, specify “Service Unit 746”); or Student Advocacy (https://studentadvocacy.net/donate-today/).
