Obituary of Gay Corning

Gay Meighan Corning, 69, of Mamaroneck, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, March 23, 2025.

Born in Yonkers, NY to Hunter and Miriam Meighan, Gay graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1973. She earned an associate's degree in 1975 from Centenary University and went on to have a successful career managing several retail stores throughout Westchester County, where she built lasting and meaningful relationships and fostered a genuine sense of community. She maintained many of these friendships throughout her entire life.

Gay had a special way of making people feel valued and appreciated, no matter the situation. Her grace, beauty, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. She was truly one of the kindest, most caring people and was known to go out of her way to make sure everyone in her path was fed, taken care of, and loved.

When not focused on caring for her family and friends, Gay found immense joy in spending time on the Long Island Sound. An avid beach goer, if the sun was shining, she was there, embracing every moment with her beautiful smile.

Gay had a deep love of her extensive collection of houseplants, finding joy in nurturing both the outdoors and her indoor green space. Her home was always filled with vibrant plants, a testament to their patience, dedication, and nurturing spirit.

Gay was predeceased by her parents, Hunter in 2008 and Miriam Meighan in 2017. She is survived by her loving children, Sean Corning, Russell Corning, and Alyssa Corning; her beloved cat, Abigail; her ex-husband, John Corning, her sisters, Marcia Abbott and Sasha Laing, as well as her nieces Mira Laing and Helena Abbott, and her nephews Ian and Malcolm Abbott. Gay had no human grandchildren, but had three adoring grand-dogs, Jerry, Sammy and Hazel that she cherished deeply. She always had a biscuit on hand.

A wake will be held at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 2:00 6:00pm.

In lieu of flowers Gay would want donations made to the New Rochelle Humane Society: https://humanesocietyofwestchester.org/donate-now/
