Obituary of John J. Fox

John J. Fox IV

John Joseph Fox IV, 74, was born in the Bronx, New York on Sunday April 30, 1950 to John J. Fox and Corinn MacCready Fox. He passed away in Montefiore Moses Hospital at 3:43 p.m. on Friday March 21, 2025 from multiple organ failure, just a few weeks shy of his seventy-fifth birthday. John is survived by his sisters, Eileen C. Fox of City Island, NY, and Deanie Fox McCarthy of Glenville, NY, as well as his brother, Edward J. Fox of Larchmont, NY, and his cousin Corinne Suppes Bird.  John was a favorite uncle to Corinn McCarthy Bergeron, William McCarthy, Irene Fox, John Ford Fox, Meredith Bird Testeverde, David Bird and Zach Bird, as well as their spouses Raymond McCarthy Bergeron, Katherine McCarthy, Dana Bird and Julia Bird. He is also survived by his Godson, David Roy Williams.

John was a man of many trades.  After graduating from Mamaroneck High School in 1968, he started an apprenticeship in the family business but shortly realized it wasn’t his passion.  He moved to Lake Placid, NY, where he worked in the People’s Dairy for a few years before returning to the New York City area.  John spent some time working in Pauling’s Cycle Shop before beginning an apprenticeship with the NYC Local 2 Plumbers Union.  He achieved journeyman status and earned several specialized certificates in the plumbing field.

In his spare time John enjoyed traveling and attempted to visit all the national parks and national monuments.  In 1971, John with his cousin Bill Rascoe and friends Greg Peacock and Debbie Lewis, traveled through Europe via train. He also traveled to Italy and France in the early 2000s with family. He loved talking with people along the way, hearing their stories and sharing his adventures.

This big-hearted man was always willing to help a friend anyway he could. Either doing plumbing jobs, helping them move or just being there for them. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Larchmont Volunteer Fire Department, Larchmont's Engine Company #1, and was the building fire inspector for the department. At Christmas he could be seen atop the fire truck dressed as Santa. Coin collecting, trap shooting and bird hunting were among his hobbies.  He loved trivia and regaled us with his extensive knowledge of it.  John was an excellent storyteller, and he loved to venture into the city to see Broadway shows or other attractions.
