Obituary of Mary Patricia Doherty
Mary “Maureen” Doherty (née Deane) of New Rochelle, NY passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the age of 90. Maureen was born in Birr County Offaly, Ireland on March 20th, 1934 to Jack and Kathleen Deane. Maureen spent her childhood in England, before meeting her husband of nearly 69 years and moving to the United States. Maureen spoke fondly and often reminisced of her years living in Ireland, England, and France, but she was also incredibly proud to become an American citizen. Maureen maintained a very active lifestyle and enjoyed many hobbies. She was often found on the tennis courts, at the bowling alley, reading by the pool, doing her daily crossword (in pen!), swimming, or enjoying walks with her husband. She was a devout Catholic; a parishioner at Saint Augustine's for over 60 years and a catechist. She spent 40 summers at the Larchmont Shore Club where some of her happiest memories were made with loved ones. Maureen’s treasure was her family and friends. She was a devoted wife to Bryan Doherty. She took care of her husband, even when her own health was failing. She was the loving mother of three sons, Bryan (Catherine), Kevin (Phyllis), and Timothy (Michelle). She adored her grandchildren Jenna, Samantha, Krista (Mark), Jack, and Kyle. Maureen is predeceased by her parents, siblings Jack (Joan), Kathleen (Tom), Olive (Bob), Brendan, Kevin (Valerie), and many friends. She is survived by her loving husband Bryan, children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. To honor her life, family and friends will gather at Fox Funeral home on Wednesday, February 12th from 4-8pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 13th, at 10:00 am at Saint Augustine’s Church, Larchmont, New York, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre, New Rochelle, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maureen’s name to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) in honor of her long and courageous battle with cancer.
