David Henry Mitchell III, 78, died on July 1, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. David will be remembered for his strong values, perseverance, commitment and deep love of family. In the 1960s, he bravely challenged the Vietnam War based on the principles of individual responsibility established at Nuremberg following WWII, with his case being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court even though it ultimately wasn’t heard by them. He later went on to advocate for tenant’s rights as an attorney at the Legal Aid Society and continued his activism in various causes during his life. David had a love for music and treasured singing with local music groups, like the Walkabout Clearwater Chorus and Past Time with Good Company, in Westchester and Rockland Counties.
Nothing made him happier than his wife of 52 years, Ellen, and their daughters Jennifer (David) and Heather (Darren) and 4 loving grandchildren, Charlie, Max, Benny and Miles. He is also survived by his brother Steve (Barbara) and brother-in-law Fred (Marcia) and their families. He will forever be in our hearts and minds.
