Melvin B. Robbins, MD

LARCHMONT, NY - Melvin B. Robbins MD, 98, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, died of natural causes August 5, 2019, in Larchmont, New York. Born November 15, 1920, in the Bronx, New York to Nathan and Zelda Rabinowitz, he spent his early years in New Jersey.  He attended Rutgers University.  After graduating college, he worked at Peter J. Schweitzer in Spotswood New Jersey as a chemist.  Melvin joined the U.S. Air Force as an officer from 1943-1946 and was stationed in the South Pacific.  He attained the rank of Captain of Communications in the Air Corps,1505th AAF.  After returning from the war, in 1947, Melvin returned to school to study Medicine on the GI Bill at New York State University, College of Medicine- Downstate, graduating in 1951 with an MD specializing in Pediatric Medicine.   In 1954, he met and married Phyllis Bikoff, MD - a psychiatrist, and raised their four children in Fair Lawn, New Jersey where both he and his wife had medical practices.   Melvin ran a busy pediatric practice in Fair Lawn NJ.  Upon retirement in 2000, Mel and Phyllis moved to Wyckoff, New Jersey.He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 65 years, and his four children, Peter, of Herndon, Virginia, Jonathan of East Orange, New Jersey, Andrew of Larchmont, New York, and Melissa of Manhattan, NY and six grandchildren Zakai, Aliya, Ben and Jack Robbins and Zoe and Mia Robbins Rutkovsky.  He was predeceased by his brother Travers Robbins, MD. 

Funeral service 10:00 AM Wednesday August 7, 2019 at the Chapel at Cedar Park & Beth El Cemeteries 735 Forest Avenue Paramus, NJ 07652.  Follow the signs to the office.  Burial will follow the service.
