Gloria Plesent

Gloria Plesent, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died peacefully on February 14, 2023 after living a rich and productive 94 years.

Gloria was born in the Bronx to Allan and Harriet Guberman on June 28, 1928.  She attended Walton High School and CCNY.  It was at CCNY that Gloria met and married her beloved husband, Stanley Plesent, and embarked upon their remarkable 73 year partnership.  They were patrons of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company from its inception and City College boosters, as well as active in Democratic politics.

Gloria had three careers in an era when few women had one.  She taught in the NY City Public Schools while Stanley attended Law School at Columbia.  She served as a court liaison in the juvenile court, supervising diversion plans for young offenders. She was a remarkable success as a Professor of Literature in the New School’s retiree program where her classes were standing room only for years.

She loved everything French!  She was a remarkable cook and a gracious and enthusiastic hostess.

Gloria had four adoring children, Leslie, Nora (Carlo), Mark (1960-2021) and John (1964-2006), and six devoted grandchildren, Melanie (Ryan), Zachary (Jenna), Haley, Gabriel, Olivia and Jadyn.

Her legacy of wit, charm, intelligence, and love is an enduring gift to all.

Funeral service will be Sunday February 19th at 12:00PM at The John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538.
